Ideal for people with mid-late stage dementia who enjoy sorting cutlery.
How to use with people with dementia: Place the cutlery tray and cutlery on table in front of the participant. Ask the person if they would like to help sort the cutlery into different colours (without the cutlery tray for a person who requires a less complicated activity), or into different colours into the cutlery tray, or into different types of cutlery into their different colours into the cutlery tray. Demonstrate to the participant how to do what you are inviting them to do and then ask if they would like to do it themselves.
The complexity of option you choose will depend on the participants abilities. Less complicated for a person with more advanced dementia and more complicated (more steps involved) for people with mid stage dementia.
The objective of this or any activity is for the person to be content and comfortable engaging in the activity in which ever way they are comfortable to do so. Do NOT correct the person if they don’t follow as instructed. Simply encourage their participation.
